Abstract
This study was to analyze the evaluation of gerontological clinical practice by nursing students and clinical instructors. The evaluation tools were composed of self-evaluation and case study process by nursing students, and clinical evaluation by field instructors. Data were collected from 283 nursing students and 8 clinical instructors during 2008 and 2009. In a case study, nursing students assigned a high rating to assessment, diagnosis, and nursing records but assigned a low rating to planning. In the evaluation of clinical practice, nursing students and clinical instructors rated the following fields in increasing order: Skill, knowledge, and attitude. There were significant differences in the evaluations between knowledge and skill. It is essential to investigate the needs of nursing students in the planning of gerontological clinical practice and to develop tools and guidelines for reliable and valid evaluation in various care settings.
